And That is The End of the Story...

May 15, 2020

A little less than two years ago I was a very different person, leading a very different life. Or at least something that resembled a life in a technical sense. At the end of my rope I decided to go out on a limb and start this blog. It’s goal was simple, to get me back to writing and prove, once and for all, if I could actually do this thing that is my lifelong dream. I set out to do it by meeting 100 people in 100 days, to tell the stories of the encounters I had, and to find some discipline in writing every single day again.

What I received was much more.

In the simple act of telling stories, I returned to my roots as a writer, tapped into who I truly am, learned some new things about myself through the eyes of others, and fell in love. The stories of others showed me new dimensions to the world, some amazing and some I wish I hadn’t seen. I have made some incredible friends, met some people who inspire me daily, and, honestly, met a few I am glad to not meet with anymore. And yet, even in that last group I found a deep truth and beauty in finding my common ground with a person instead of those things that separate us.

In what has become well over 100 stories I even formed some phrases that people began reciting back to me on disturbingly regular intervals. Smiles and cries, custodians of stories, and, perhaps my favorite, meetings and partings.

And now is the time for a parting.

The story I set out to tell here has been told; its purpose has been served. Looking back, I can honestly say that this is one of the most beautiful things I have ever created for this world. It is exactly as it needs to be and it has helped more than just me. These stories have moved and helped many people. I’m so happy they joined me for them.

There won’t be a book. There’s no need, and nothing I could write would compare to the amazing beauty and joy in these stories I was lucky enough to be a small part of. Don’t worry, these stories will stay right here, on this website, for you to read and remember, to smile and cry with others or on your own.

But the closing of a book doesn’t mean there is nothing left.

Starting Monday, I will be writing new stories on a new platform, and I would love for you all to join me there as I continue to tell stories and share the world I see with all of you.

For all of you who shared your stories with me, who joined me on this journey and helped me find Matt again, my deepest, most heartfelt thank you. It has been incredible for me.

So let’s close this book, or flip back to previous chapters and reminisce. Please enjoy every word here, they are as much yours as they are mine. And you never know, someday, yes someday, I might just come back,,,like the Lorax.

May the Force be With You,

Matt
